Tan cloth, titles stamped in gilt on the front cover and spine, map on front and rear endpapers, xxviii [2], 357 [1] pp., frontispiece [portrait], foreword, acknowledgments, introduction, illustrated, map, appendices, index. Letters of a German who crossed the Atlantic Ocean to consider Texas as a new home for him, perhaps as a farmer. The book provides insights into the experiences of Germans in Texas during 1846-47, capturing their perspectives as immigrants and travelers. The text is in both German and English and while Sorgel was a keen observer, his time in Texas was special. A fine bright copy in a bright and fresh dust jacket.
