The J A Ranch was the oldest ranch in the Texas Panhandle, founded by Charles Goodnight and John Adair. Six Score 18 says, "One of the first ranch histories, and one of the rarest and most important. It is not known how many copies of this book were printed, but it certainly was no more than several hundred." In 1929 J, Evetts Haley noted that the work was "already becoming rare."
