"Tells about members of the Lee gang and other lesser-known outlaws." Herd 1933 says, "Scarce." The author provides recollections of the Union League in Cooke County, Texas. The Union League was a secret organization made up of Union sympathizers during the Civil War. Many of their activities around Gainesville are discussed including meetings, membership, military law for the county, and executions. Indian warfare and the resultant problems are discussed in some depth, as well as life in the Chickasaw Nation. Much information regarding outlaws and the cattle trade in Indian Territory is provided. Indians of Texas 2737 says, "This history of Cooke County, Texas and the surrounding area includes much information on local Comanche depredations during the 1860s." A "meaty" little book with many recollections from an "old-timer." A clean, very good-near fine copy.
