James Charles Rodgers was an American singer, songwriter, and musician who rose to popularity in the late 1920s. Widely regarded as the "Father of Country Music" he is best known for his distinctive yodeling. James Charles Rodgers was born on September 8, 1897, in Meridian, Mississippi, and died young at age 35 on May 26, 1933, from complications of tuberculosis. Despite his short life, he had a profound influence on American music ... especially country, blues, and early rock. He was the first nationally famous country music star, one of the first inductees into the Country Music Hall of Fame (1961) and later into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (1986), and a pioneer in blending genres: country, folk, blues, gospel, and even jazz influencing artists like Hank Williams, Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan, Elvis Presley, and Merle Haggard. An attractive presentation.
