An ornately printed Government Bond issued by the Confederate States of America, by Act of Congress. C.S.A. February, 20, 1863. The Confederate States of America (CSA) loan authorized by the Act of Congress on February 20, 1863, was a financial instrument used to fund the government, typically maturing on July 1, 1868. These bonds, often featuring portraits of figures like Jefferson Davis, generally promised 8% interest and were produced by engravers like Archer & Daly or Evans & Cogswell. 14" x 17." Printed in black ink. Fully executed in ink and dated March 2, 1863. Upper portion is ornately designed with a central portrait of Christopher G. Memminger, Secretary Of The Treasury, of the Confederate States Of America, and it describes the terms of the loan. The bottom third is comprised of 11 printed coupons, 10 of which are designated with a $20 value. Each is dated and signed by E. S. Read. One horizontal and 3 vertical folds, with some light soiling to blank edges of document.
