Oury had already been a Texas Ranger and a California gold rush miner, when he arrived in Arizona territory in 1856. He became a respected pioneer settler, and as an Indian fighter, cattle rancher, sheriff, stage agent, newspaper editor, and politician left his mark on the history of the development of the territory. His participation in the notorious "Camp Grant Massacre," in which the early settlers killed many innocent Apaches gathered at Camp Grant, is recorded here. Fine in dust jacket.
