First edition. 8vo. As new, unread copy in dust jacket. Cloth, red endpapers, 268 pp., introduction, illustrated, portraits, maps, epilogue, bibliography, index. From 1875 - 1878, saloon owner George O. Hand kept a diary of the day-to-day living in the frontier town of Tucson, Arizona. Editor Neil Carmony undertook the tedious task of transcribing that diary, which is currently housed in the archives of the Arizona Historical Society. His diary recorded the fiestas, cockfights and bullfights; the bar-room brawls, outlaw depredations and Indian raids; the smallpox epidemics and the general tedium and harshness of frontier living. A fine singular view of life on the frontier!
