Publication: Press of Glass & Prudhomme Co, 1905, Portland

Published by the County court for Free Distribution during the Lewis and Clark Centennial Exposition. 9 1/8" x 6 1/8" in light green printed wrappers. 64pp; Illustrated from photographs. The objective of this piece is given thus: “This pamphlet is published by the County Court of Wasco County, and aims to give succinct information regarding the natural resources, improvements and possible development of this portion of the State of Oregon, lying east of the Cascade Mountains. The compiler has visited every portion of the county, and the data has been procured from persons engaged in the different industries and from actual receipts at the warehouses which receive and ship the produce of the region. It is not published for the benefit of any particular business, but as a means of information to the home-seeker who may visit the state during the Lewis and Clark Exposition, or to the capitalist who may be seeking opportunities for investment. The editor has been careful not to overestimate productions of orchard, farm or forest, but simply to state facts as given him by farmers, fruit growers and lumbermen.” Following a general introduction to the county are special sections about The Dalles, Hood River, Dufur, Boyd, Kingsley, Tygh, Wamic, Juniper Flat, Sherar’s Bridge, Bakeoven District, Mosier, Shaniko, Antelope, Celilo, Columbia Precinct, and Deschutes District. The publication ends with a page devoted to the topic, “What Wasco County Needs.” The photographs from which the illustrations were taken are from several photographers, including women. Besides the expected images taken by the renown photographer Benjamin Gifford, other photos are credited to Mrs. G.W. Johnston, D.D. Wilder, Miss Louise Ruch, and Mrs. C.J. Vandyne. Some tanning to rear panel and edges along with light bumping to front corner. Very good. Very scarce publication.
