Publication: Von Boeckmann-Jones Co, 1909, Austin

First edition. Cloth, 284pp., frontis + 12 plates. "These memoirs were written by a Sergeant in Company B, Frontier Battalion, Texas Rangers. He served under Bill McDonald and others between 1888 and 1900, a period for which there are few surviving ranger recollections. The original edition is very rare, and until its reissue in 1966, it was little known to scholars... In 1871 he became a Texas cowboy and began moving herds up the Chisholm Trail. Gradually, he fell into law enforcement work, as Deputy Sheriff and as an agent for the Pinkertons... Sullivan chased and captured bank robbers, cattle thieves, murderers, and train robbers, and had his share of gunfights... He was present at the hanging of Bill Longley and at the Fitzsimmons-Maher fight in El Paso, and did duty with John Selman during the period just after Selman killed John Wesley Hardin."---Basic Texas Books. "This rare and much sought book tells about the life of this Texas Ranger and contains chapters about the hanging of Bill Longley, the Cook gang, and some Texas feuds and bank robberies."---Adam's One-Fifty... The 150 Most Important Books On Western Outlaws And Lawmen, 1976. Several significant spots of discoloration on front cover, else a very good copy of this rare and important Texas Ranger memoir.
