First edition. 4to. Full leather, titles and decoration stamped in gold gilt on the front cover, decorated front and rear endpapers, n. p. (116 pp.), illustrated, full page plates, advertisements, large folding map. A 11" x 24" linen backed map is at the front of the volume and is "Showing the Route to the Mountain and Seaside Resorts Chesapeake and Ohio Railway." The map details the route from New York City with all major stations prominently displayed through to St. Louis. The full page plates are of points of interest in Virginia and West Virginia. Some views shown are Kanawha Falls in WV, New River Canons, near Cotton Hill, WV, Sewell Cliffs, on New River, WV, Shoo Fly Tunnel and Canons, New River, WV, the Main Front of the Grand Hotel, White Sulphur Springs, WV, Buffalo Gap, North Mountain, VA, Block Telegraph Station in the Alleghanies, VA, and much more. Two attractive plates are of the Grand Hotel in White Sulphur Springs originally built by the C & O Railway Company and known today as the Greenbrier Hotel & Resort and Baltimore Row located at the Greenbrier and today a place where various artisans can display and sell their wares. Also there are many fine advertisements from a number of advertisers in Cincinnati, Ohio and a few others. One plate of the Greenbrier River has been removed, former owner's inked name on front fly leaf, professionally restored by resewing signatures and a new spine laid-down with titles stamped in gilt, front and rear internal spine channel also professionally reinforced, light cosmetic care to the cover extremities, and a few page margins lightly soiled. This is a sturdy, serviceable book in very good condition with attractive period photographs and advertisements.
