First edition. Laid into this copy is an autographed letter signed from Fitzsimmons and written on Viking Press letterhead, dated October 7, 1931. A brief letter that forwards a copy of his novel 70,000 Witnesses and noting that "It has had a satisfactory advance sale and we are holding our breath waiting for moving picture and syndicate rights to come in ..." The first of three mystery novels to feature Miss Ethel Thomas. Murder at Bargain Day sales at the great Doane's Department store starts with the jewelry buyer being strangled in her office. Her murder wasn't the only one because that same day three more victims were snuffed out the same way. Miss.Thomas knew how to find a murderer in a crowded department store. The book is in very fine, bright condition in a beautifully fine dust jacket. An exceptional copy of an elusive title.
