Cloth, titles stamped in gold gilt on the spine, xv [1], 202 pp., introduction, illustrated, map, appendices, chapter sources, index. Set in Cochise County, Arizona, the twin peaks known as Dos Cabezas [the two heads] are distinctive landmarks of the equally fascinating mining community of Dos Cabezas. The town came into existence as a watering spot on the Overland Trail and when prospectors found gold at the base of the peaks it became a milling center. Hundreds of mining claims were staked, lush grasses lured cattlemen, and a boom town was born and unsavory characters showed up. Gold deposits eventually died off and copper mining took its place and the small village grew to a population of more than 4,000 citizens. However while there was plenty of copper mineralization, little ore was mined; the major mine turned out to be a major scam and a stock swindle. Today a ghost town rests at the foot of Dos Cabezas. As new, unread copy in dust jacket.
