First edition. Quarto. Pictorial wrappers, stapled, 71 pp. (printed one-side), illustrated, map. At one point in his career in 1863 Col. McPhail was acting Federal Land Agent in southern Minnesota. He actively promoted land distribution and included provisions for the planting of trees on each farm, a condition for the pioneer to gain title to the property. He had a distiguished military career during the Civil War and the Indian expedition under General Sibley. This is one of a limited number of copies. Fine copy.
