Photographs by C.G. Darnall. First edition. Oblong 24mo. 5 1/8" x 7 1/4" embossed cloth design with letters in gold gilt and string-tied, n.p. (includes an Introduction and 16 views each with a page of descriptive text opposite), illustrated. On the verso of several photographs are neatly written signatures and date. The date on 9 of the 10 signatures is May 27, 1891 and on the first signature (that of a Mrs. M.G. Desbory) the date is May 26, 1891 and the word "Chaperone." Views include the Mammoth Cave Hotel, mouth of the cave, saltpetre flats, water pipes used in 1812-14, the Bridal Altar, the old Arm Chair, Martha Washington's statue, the Bridge of Sighs, Star Chamber, the Echo River, etc. Rubbing to edges and corners of covers as well as to the spine. Pages lightly soiled throughout. Very good.
