Publication: Simon & Schuster, 2020, London
First edition. Signed by the author on the title page. As new, unread copy in fine dust jacket. A profusely illustrated and often macabre account of some of the most bizarre books ever written. The chapter headings such as Literary hoaxes, cryptic books, books of the supernatural hardly do this justice. Take one random example ... a book found wrapped in sailcloth when a cod fish belly was slit open at Cambridge market in 1626. The disintegrating volume was a collection of religious treatises written by a Protestant Priest, John Frith, while held prisoner by Cardinal Wolsey in a fish cellar, prior to being burnt at the stake 'for his soul's salvation!
