Publication: The State Historical Society of Wisconsin, 1916, Madison

First edition. 8vo. Blue cloth, 444 pp., preface, historical introduction, illustrated, three maps, seven plates, three facsimiles. The rediscovery in 1913 of Sergeant John Ordway's journal among the papers of the editor of the original publication of the Lewis & Clark journals, Nicholas Biddle, that had been passed down in the Biddle family was exciting news for scholars of the Lewis & Clark Expedition. Milo M. Quaife was successful in his requests to the grandson of Nicholas Biddle, Charles Biddle, that he be permitted to edit and publish Ordway's journal. Herein presented, Ordway's journal is an important record and supplement to the journals kept by Meriwether Lewis and William Clark. Signed by Quaife with additional pencil notes by Quaife on the front free endpaper.
