Publication: Printed by the author, 1906, N P

Manuscript; oblong 11 1/4 x 8 1/2; 32 pp., beige hand-colored, pictorial wrappers, tied with a decorative ribbon in purple and black, illustrated in pencil and watercolors; title page in ornate script in red and black; pages ruled in red; illustrated with an original silver gelatin photograph and photographic images of D. C. architecture. A beautiful manuscript book, created by Margaret Brooks for her Art History Class and written in her hand in ink in the form of a conversation between two cameras, a Kodak and an old plain camera. The Kodak complained it was tired from being taken "snapshooting all over Washington" while the old one said it had not been picked for many months for being out of date and useless, but "Oh! the sights (it) had seen while in Europe and Africa." Wondering if the buildings in DC could compare to those on the other continents, the cameras set out to explore the city and compare notes. The book is illustrated with various cutouts and photographic images (from different publications) of landmarks around Washington, including the Library of Congress, the Washington Monument, the White House, etc. The booklet is, indeed, a marvelous study of the various architectural styles and influences in the nation's capital in 1906. Small smudge to front cover, else a very good copy.
