Signed "Fred Barton / Miles City, Montana" on the front and rear pastedown sheets, Under the front signature is a copy photograph of Charley Russell, inscribed by Russell to his friend Barton. Under the rear pastedown sheet is a photograph of a Russell painting. Fred Barton was a friend of the Russells and wrote a book on the life of Charles M. Russell. Original green cloth, titles and decoration printed in black and gilt on the front cover and spine, xii, 271 pp., frontispiece (C. M. Russell picture), illustrated, map, index. Numerous illustrations, including many by Charles M. Russell. Much about early exploration along the Missouri River, mountain men, fur trade, Lewis and Clark, Chief Joseph, Thomas Jefferson, etc. Lightly faded on the spine else a fine, bright, clean copy. Large color folding map at the rear is clean and un-used. Nice copy.
