First edition, fifth revision. Originally issued in April 30, 1965. This copy revised on March 1, 1968. This is copy number 440. Over 250 drawings, blueprints, diagrams, fonts, and specifications. Revised & expanded edition, No. 440, of this exceedingly scarce in-house Mid-Century Modern advertising sign manual for the Texaco Oil Company. This work details all the necessary information on identification items, and affiliated information relative to installation, use, and requirements of Texaco signs on gas pumps, filling stations, storage tanks, buildings, equipment, warehouses, and hangars. The service station sign specifications encompass Texaco signs & poles, signage for service station buildings, gasoline pumps, motor oil cans, point-of-sale racks, drums, lubrication containers, kerosene, and even signage for the restrooms. Originally founded as the Texas Company in 1902, Texaco changed the company name to it's brand in 1959, so all signage and advertising point-of-sale racks had to be changed through the 1960s, as the company modernized, and changed their logo to the well-known hexagon logo introduced in 1963. These specifications encompass porcelain signs, poles, decal signs, plastic letter signs, illuminated plastic signs of all sizes, all of the assorted gasoline pump signs, along with area-specific signs for areas in New York, Mississippi, as well as large billboard and product signs for roads, highways, and more. Of special interest are the sections detailing the signage for Texaco aviation and marine products, including the Texaco-approved signs for fuel signs, decals, fueling pits, airport re-fuelers, aviation emblems on hangars, painted airport buildings, Texaco windsocks, marina signs, marine lubricant, Texaco outboard blends, and much more. Originally issued in 1965, this in-house catalogue includes updates to March 1, 1968, with all of them carefully interleaved into their appropriate sections. An old water stain to the front cover, fore-edges are lightly worn, some light additional soiling to the covers, occasional interior dust soiling, else interior clean and tight. A very good copy of a scarce item. No copies located in Worldcat.
