Oblong 48mo. 4" x 7 1/4" pictorial wrappers, n.p. (32 pp.), illustrated, map. This booklet was prepared for the Chicago Worlds Fair held in 1893. The booklet points out the many reasons to consider South Dakota as your home, pointing out that in 1880 the population was 98,268 people and 450,000 in 1893, 102 miles of railroad in 1880 and 2,691 in 1893, etc. Points out the area and location, government land available, the climate, soil, rainfall, forage crops, vegetables, stock raising, cattle, sheep, horses, fruit culture, educational facilities, tin, silver, mica, coal, copper, timber, mineral waters, schools, railroad facilities, etc. Views of the falls of the Big Sioux River in Sioux Falls, Lake Madison, Artesian Lake, the Corn Palace in Mitchell, typical farm scenes, Sylvan Lake, the Evan's Plunge Bath, Hot Springs, Mammoth Crystal Cave, etc. A section on the Black Hills is provided along with a folding map of South Dakota that is affixed to the rear cover. There are only five recorded copies of this item. Former owner's small name stamp to top edge of first page, a few tiny chips to top edge of last three pages, but not affecting the text or views, else a very good copy with a fine folding map.
