Publication: The Macmillan Company, 1943, New York

First edition. 8vo. Light blue cloth, orange stamping on spine, viii [2], 207 pp., frontis. [picture of Roy Bean], illustrated, plates, portraits. The first full-length Roy Bean biography, chock full of Bean stories and how he upheld the peace in Langtry to his own satisfaction. He came to Texas in 1882, had his town named Langtry, after a platonic romance with the famous "Jersey Lily," whom he'd never met, and hung up his shingle as "Roy Bean: Justice of the peace and notary public, ice cold beer." He based his decisions on the spirit rather than the letter of the law. Near fine in dust jacket with light wear to the spine ends and the corners, a linear crease along the bottom edge of the front panel and a small closed tear to bottom edge of rear panel, and light wear to the extremities.
