First edition. Fine, bright copy in dust jacket with light professional restoration. Boucher chose the pseudonym H. H. Holmes, which was the alias of a notorious 19th Century mass murderer, for two of his books. The other title being Nine Times Nine. Hilary Foulkes, the son of one of the greats of science fiction, calls the police to report apparent attempts on his life. Lieutenant Marshall of the L.A.P.D. arrives just in time to be present for the arrival of a bomb, which to police diffuse. Soon Foulkes is found murdered in a room that seems to have been securely locked. Only two doors exist in the room and one of them is chained from the inside. The other door leads to another room, where several observers are prepared to swear that nobody went in or came out. A Haycraft/Queen cornerstone and a handsome copy.
