First edition. First issue. 8vo. Cloth, xiv, [2], 276 pp., preface, introduction, illustrated, Only a few copies of the first edition got out; hence its scarcity. This is the unexpurgated edition with pages 120 through 268 in the original published state instead of the revisions caused by the law suit of the Pinkerton Detective Agency. Former owner's bookplate on the front pastedown sheet, minor wear to the corners, and a penciled note on the front fly leaf, barely visible, small old water stain to top edge of a few front pages, else a very good, tight copy.
