Republic Edition, The Wave, Vol. Xix, No. 24. Mining At Republic, Washington

Publication: The Wave Publishing Company, June 17, 1899, Seattle & San Francisco

First edition. 11 1/4" x 16." in self-printed photo-illustrated wrappers. 34 pp. With photos, double-page panoramic photo spread, plat maps, mining maps, Republic, Washington, map, illustrated ads. Very rare land promotion for the Republic Mining District, in Ferry County, Eastern Washington, during the height of the gold rush which would last until 1901. By 1899 the town was crowded with over 2000 miners and prospectors mostly housed in canvas tents. T town site was laid out only the year before, and Ferry County had split off from Stevens county. Included are extended illustrated articles on the history of Republic workings, the Great Republic Camp by John Welty; a description touting the production of The Mountain Lion gold mine; as well as a mining claims map by Hammond & Ralston. In addition, businesses are listed, a description of the local Curlew Mining District on La Fleur Mountain in the Colville Indian Reservation; along with promotions for such gold mining companies as the Georgie Reed Gold Mining Company, the Mabel Gold Mining Company, the Gold Mountain Mining & Milling Co., and the Eureka First Thought Mining Company. Center fold, as issued. Some toning & minor chipping to fore-edges along with creasing to corners, minor closed tears at spine and with some rubbing. Very good.
