First edition. 8vo. Signed "Compliments of Col. O. M. Poe" who was Sherman's adjutant. Cloth, with titles stamped in gilt on the front cover, 110 pp. ten folding maps, five plates. Provides a detailed report of Lieutenant General Sheridan's reconnaissance of the Bighorn Mountains and the valleys of the Bighorn and Yellowstone under his personal supervision during the month of July, 1877. Sheridan was accompanied by General Crook and John Bourke. Additionally an itinerary of the route taken along and through the Bighorn Mountains from Camp Brown, Wyoming to the new post on Bighorn River, Montana is provided, along with a report on the geology and natural history of the Bighorn Mountains. General Sherman provides an extensive report of his tour of inspection along the line of the North Pacific Railroad with a report in diary form by Colonel O. M. Poe, Sherman's aide-de-camp and an engineer, about exploration through Montana and Washington. Light wear to the spine ends and extremities, else a very good copy.
