Publication: Government Printing Office, 1875, Washington

First edition. Thick 8vo. Red cloth with leather spine label and titles stamped in gilt, Lxxvii [1], 852 pp. This report examines the state of the Red Cloud Indian Agency after the Red Cloud's War in 1866 and 1867. Red Cloud was an Oglala Sioux, a fierce warrior and leader of the "hostile" Sioux. This report preceded the Little Big Horn battle and provides some insight as to the state of Indian/White relations on the plains during the years before the battle. Luther's High Spot 33 says, "The state of affairs among the hostile and reservation Sioux can best be understood by reading two government documents. REPORT OF THE SPECIAL COMMISSION APPOINTED TO INVESTIGATE THE AFFAIRS OF THE RED CLOUD INDIAN AGENCY...., 1875, is our High Spot 33." This is a rare item and one of the hardest Luther High Spots to obtain. It is the full report, not the smaller summary. Fine copy.
