Publication: A Carlisle & Co of Nevada, 1935, Reno

First edition. 8vo. Original black cloth, gold stamping on front cover and spine, frontis. [portrait], 233 pp., illustrated, introduction, prologue. Adams 150: 112 says, "The author, at one time superintendent of the Nevada State Police and later warden of the state penitentiary, tells about some Nevada badmen, including train and stage robbers. There is some information on Henry Plummer and Farmer Peel and he gives a good account of the death of Sam Brown, as well as some of the activities of Jack Davis. I hesitate to call this book rare, but in all my years of book collecting, I have never seen but the one I once owned." The author was warden of the Nevada State Penitentiary at Carson City and Superintendent of Nevada state police. In addition to a history of the prison, includes accounts of several noted Nevada outlaws including Henry Plummer and Farmer Peel. Includes a detailed chapter on the first executions conducted by lethal gas, a method pioneered by Penrose and his staff beginning in 1924. Ink beginning to chip a bit, else very good, tight copy.
