Photograph Album Of Early Travel In Colorado

Photograph Album Of Early Travel In Colorado

Publication: ca 1915,

8 1/2" x 5 3/4" textured black cloth over stiff card boards. String bound at left margin. 58 black and white silver print photographs adhesive mounted to 50 black paper leaves (first 8 leaves with mounts to rectos and versos; final 42 leaves rectos only). A captivating album of vernacular photography primarily capturing early travel by automobile and train through Colorado. The stunning scenic views captured through the window of a passenger train, likely the Royal Gorge line of the Denver and Rio Grande Western Railroad, are clean and well executed throughout. Additional images show the party traveling via car (models resemble images of circa-1915 autos) over remote, dirt roads. Lacking any notations, though with identifiable images of the State Capitol building in Denver and the Hotel Denton in Canon City. In addition are photos of ranches, the party fishing, cowboy in chaps on horseback and another with the same individual holding a lasso, a man and woman standing beside a log cabin, a woman instructing how to dive into water, two boys standing beside a church with a woman carrying two baskets coming toward them, etc. An unusually well preserved and exceptionally crafted collection of views of Colorado with elements of early automobile travel through the American West. Contents clean. Near fine.
