Publication: The Peerless Motor Car Company, 1922, Cleveland

First edition. 10 1/4" x 7 1/2" decorated stiff wrappers, decorated front and rear endpapers, 44 pp., note, double column, illustrated. Decorated title in sepia & black, sepia-tinted woodcut borders throughout, numerous plates, cutaway diagrams, text illustrations. First edition of this very scarce Peerless Motor Car Company dealer brochure, advertising and promoting the changes brought to the Company in 1922 after being purchased by Collins, former President of Cadillac, and his business investors. Peerless indicates that the models in this catalogue are the “New Peerless” models, including a 4-passenger Touring Phaeton; 7-passenger Touring Phaeton, 2-passenger Roadster Coupe; 4-passenger Suburban Coupe; 5- and 7-passenger Town Sedans; a beautiful 5-passenger Berline Limousine, along with a 4-passenger Opera Brougham. The company began manufacturing automobiles in Cleveland in 1900, and were known for their high-quality, luxury automobiles, and were responsible for introducing drum brakes and enclosed-body production cars. Collins’ team increased the horsepower in the Peerless V-8 engines, improved the cooling system, introduced new model colors, and more. Unfortunately, they were unable to improve sales as much as the investors wished, and by 1927, Collins was out. The last automobile built was the 1932 V-16 sedan, and after that Peerless’ president James Bohannon, decided to convert the auto plant to beer brewery, eventually becoming the Carling Brewing Company. No copies located in Worldcat. A fine, clean and exceptional copy of a difficult title.
