8vo. 9' x 16" sheet, 8 panels, one side has a two panel map, photograph of Cottonwood trees under irrigation, the other side has text and a photograph of the waste water Eddy reservoir. The map is 5" x 8" shows location of the Pecos Valley and its railway connections. Additionally the map shows Texas, New Mexico, Indian Territory, Colorado, Arkansas, Missouri, Kansas, and portions of Louisiana, Illinois, Arizona, Utah, Wyoming, Nebraska, Iowa, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Mississippi. The text is written in Danish, with the captions under the photographs and map written in English. The booklet was designed to lure the Danish immigrant to the Pecos Valley of New Mexico. The brochure is gracious in its praise of the region for its plentifulness of water, agreeable climate, richness of the soil for growing a variety of fruits and vegetables, and for a fine quality of life. The Pecos Irrigation & Improvement Company was established by John Arthur Eddy and Charles Bishop Eddy with former sheriff Pat Garrett as a shareholder. Their plan, formulated by Garrett, called for irrigation of the land along the Pecos River from the Texas border to Roswell, New Mexico. It consisted of a series of of dams and canals to accumulate and distribute water. By 1898, Pecos Irrigation & Improvement Company had been declared insolvent and went into receivership.
