This booklet is designed to advertise Memphis' attractiveness as a business destination. The Memphis Chamber of Commerce states the following: "Our efforts are devoted to the development of every phase of commercial, educational, industrial, civic, and social life of the city - whatever benefits Memphis". What sets this book apart is that it features a photo and history of each of the major buildings." Memphis is the center of the greatest field of raw material for all purposes in the world, and the ideal manufacturing and distributing point for the South, the Southwest, Cuba, Central America and the Pacific Coast. Some of the buildings featured are the Shelby County Court House and City Hall; the Central Pumping Station, Municipal Water Supply System; one of sixteen Fire Stations; the Federal Custom House and Post Office; et. al. Memphis is known as one of the best national convention cities. Describes several hotels such as the Hotel Gayoso, the Hotel Chisca, the Hotel Claridge and under construction is The Hotel Peabody destined to be one of the finest hotels in the country. Photographs of churches of many different denominations to include their beautiful architectural designs, several different banks and exchange buildings. Included is a full page photo of "The Commercial Appeal" which is known to be the south's greatest newspaper. Several industries are mentioned such as Gumwood, one of America's finest cabinet hardwoods, the "Kelsey Wheel Company, Memphis Plant," "Fischer Lime & Cement Company," and many more. Numerous photographs of beautiful homes and hospitals. "Memphis, Tennessee is the City of Opportunity. It was in this city the immortal poem, "Opportunity," was written by one of its most beloved citizens, the lamented Walter Malone." The poem is on the inside of the front wrapper. Very light soiling to some of the pages, light wear to fore-edges and spine ends, 2 holes punched clear through the booklet as though it had been kept in a notebook else a very nice copy full of interesting information.
