First edition. Former owner's sentiments about Asey Mayo, written in pencil on front fly-leaf, small gouge to rear cover, else very good in dust jacket with tiny chips from spine ends, light tape residue to front flap, and light wear to extremities. The entire town of East Weesit is attending the Alden auction. Supposedly, among the objects that will be sold lies a hidden fortune. What begins as a treasure hunt ends with murder! Asey Mayo investigates, only to quickly realize that there are some very curious goings on. Curious indeed! As sixty-seven school and children's books from a seaman's chest purchased at the auction are found floating in a fresh water pond, forty three bound volumes of old Harper magazines from a trunk at the same auction are strewn along the roadways, and an unknown number of hymn books left in a nearby church are all puzzles in solving the murder of an antique dealer found in the seaman's chest after the auction.
