First Separate Printing. Stiff Printed Wrappers. Pages 114-127. "In the Battle of the Rosebud, on June 17,1876, General George Crook's Big Horn and Yellowstone Expedition was attacked by a force of Sioux under Sitting Bull and Crazy Horse, with their Cheyenne allies. After the conflict, Crook's column retreated from the Rosebud River to its supply camp at Goose Creek, on the headwaters of the Tongue River in Wyoming. There he remained from June 19 to August 3, awaiting reinforcements, resting his command and accumulating supplies, while a few days march away the Indians met and annihilated the Seventh Cavalry detachment under George A. Custer. This excellent work examines the thought process and decisions that Crook made in the days and weeks after he retreated from the Battle of the Rosebud. A fine copy.
