Arriving in El Paso in 1858, the author has recorded an informal history of the daily events and politics in this violent frontier town. Appendix I gives biographical sketches of the important residents of El Paso who appear in the author's account. Six-Guns 1505: "Deals with gun battles and the bloody reign of the city marshals of El Paso." Contains the account of John Wesley Hardin's death. Beautifully produced by Hertzog, it is the personal memoir of an Indiana native who moved to El Paso shortly before the Civil War, opposed succession, was arrested as a spy, eventually joined the Union Army, and became collector of U.S. Customs at El Paso. As a Republican party boss, he supported Reconstruction vigorously in El Paso and tangled with local troublemakers. One of appendices gives biographical sketches of antebellum residents of El Paso. The best edition. Fine copy housed in the original cloth slipcase that is fine and with a paper spine label and the titles stamped in green.
