Publication: U S Government Printing Office, 1906, N P
7 3/4" x 5" printed wrappers, 4 pp. An extract of a letter sent to Secretary Bonaparte which was made public on December 3, 1906. The president advises that during the summer of 1906, he visited the U.S.S. Missouri to see the ship actually at target practice. He advised that they steamed past a target 17 feet high and 21 feet wide at a distance of about one mile and advised that, "not a shot missed the target." He also dined with the men on the Missouri. He also visited the U.S.S. Louisiana and West Virginia. He dined on the Louisiana at the chief petty officer's mess and provides a menu that describes the bill of fare. He talks of the fine condition of the ships and the crewmen and advises of career and retirement opportunities of a naval career. He also says that the Louisiana ran up to a speed of 18 1/2 knots, a half knot better than her contract speed. An informative brochure with a horizontal, center-fold crease, else in very good condition.
