First edition. Boards. 98 pp. Illustrations. Edited by James J. Holmberg. Foreword by Gary E. Moulton. Published in association with the Friends of the Wisconsin Historical Society. SGT Charles Floyd was one of the first 3 men enlisted in Lewis and Clark's Corps of Discovery and was the only one to die during the expedition. On August 20, 1804, Floyd died near present-day Sioux City, apparently the result of a ruptured appendix. He kept a careful diary of the first 99 days of the expedition. An attractive production, this work is the first facsimile edition of Floyd's journal. Excellent editing and introduction. As new in dust jacket.
