11" x 7" printed wrappers, 4 pp. The Dyea and Dawson City Transportation and Trading Co was incorporated in December, 1897 and headquartered out of Baltimore, but had offices in Philadelphia, New York, and Seattle. They recommended making their Seattle office the prospector’s headquarters for mail and other conveniences. “Mail received after departure from Seattle will be forwarded. Information of all kinds is here cheerfully furnished.” The company also said that each person would be furnished a list of the proper clothing needed in Alaska and suggested miners buy such clothing at the Seattle office. “Money can be saved by purchasing clothing in Seattle.” The front page lists the officers and directors. They promised that the president, F. Howard Griffith, would personally be in contact with every one of their customers at Dyea or Lake Lindeman. The other three pages details their outfitting and delivery services and gives an itemized breakdown of what would be included in the purchase and delivery of 1,050 pounds of provisions to Lake Lindeman from Dyea for the amount of $400! They laid out the advantages of their proposition. “You get off the boat at Dyea, deliver your personal outfit of clothing to us, and start over the pass for Lake Linderman. When you get there everything will be ready to start down the lakes and rivers for the mines. Last year it averaged from four to six weeks time, while this year, with us, it can be done in two or three days.” They also state that boats could be built or bought at Lake Lindeman. “This company will have a stock of all kinds on hand, both of canvas and of wood for those who wish to purchase. It also expects to have a sawmill with lumber for sale for building boats. Those starting in February or March will have ample time to build, or may sled the goods down over the snow and ice from Lake Linderman to Dawson City.” The circular includes a detailed list of supplies needed for two men. At the end of the many suggestions and reasons for taking the company up on their services, the circular ends with, “Those going in over the Chilcoot pass gain a whole season’s work over those going in by the Yukon River or “all water route,” which is very uncertain and cannot be used till late in the summer, to reach the gold fields. The prospector then finds winter almost upon him and nothing can be done till the following spring.” An informative and scarce circular that most likely dates circa 1899. OCLC lists an unused printed form for delivery goods to Lake Linderman from this company at Yale, but no copies of this circular have been found. Minor toning on front page, with vertical and horizontal folds. else in very good condition.
