First edition. Fine in dust jacket lightly soiled on the rear white panel, light wear to the spine ends and corners, with minor wear. nicks and creases to the extremities. Seven stories of suspense and terror that includes the short story “Fire Escape.” Nine-year-old Tommy has a penchant for telling whoppers in this boy-who-cried-wolf suspense story. On a hot summer night, he sleeps on the fire escape to try to catch some breeze and witnesses a couple committing murder. He tells his parents, then the police, but no one believes him. Nonetheless, the murderous couple want to be sure he never tells anyone again. The author also wrote as Cornell Woolrich and George Hopley. In 1949, RKO Studios produced the film The Window which was based on this short story. The Director was Ted Tetzlaff, Mel Dinelli as the Screenwriter, and starring Barbara Hale, Bobby Driscoll, and Arthur Kennedy.
