An entertaining account of a three month voyage aboard Stokes' yacht, "Sea Fox." Stokes cruised from Porto Rico to Trinidad, noting various aspects of different peoples, their lives, customs, lands, etc. The book is illustrated with pictures taken by the author and include photos of native people, scenery, water scenes, etc. Stokes was also the inventor of a centerboard, patented March 31, 1903, and of a globular floating battery for coast defense, patented April 7 of the same year. "Numerous attempts have been made to produce a floating battery which would prove practically impregnable; but these batteries have all possessed certain disadvantages which, among other objects, it is the purpose of my invention to overcome." Numerous diagrams of the battery. Overall soiling along with chip to head of spine, along with wear to spine and extremities. Very good.
