Publication: Upton & Sons, 1987, El Segundo
First edition. Cloth. 180pp. Numerous illustrations. 9 maps. Preface. Notes. Bibliography. Index. An excellent, detailed study of this major, yet nearly forgotten battle. The Sioux & Cheyenne victory over the large military force led by General George Crook was a prelude and led directly to a still greater triumph over Custer's command eight days later. Illustrations include 11 photographs of the terrain upon which the battle took place. The detailed maps are very important in that they record and present the changing of the positions of the Indians and Crook's troops throughout the approximate 5 hour duration of the battle. Fine in fine dust jacket.
