Publication: Published for Lowman & Hanford Stationery & Printing Co, 1896, Seattle
First edition. 24mo. 5 1/2" x 3 3/4" pictorial wrappers, 23 pp., preface, appendix. First edition of this scarce and important early travelers dictionary intended not only for those making leisure trips to Alaska, but primarily whalers and sealers, as the listed tribes at the end of the 19th-Century did not have a written language. This dictionary which included a number of obscure words for food stuffs, daily items, and even numbers and currency conversions from the Russian ruble, also identified 80-90 Russian loanwords which had been adapted by the Native Americans in the Aleutians. Light evidence of a few fold creases, small cellophane tape repair on verso of front cover's fore-edge, two small chips to bottom edges of front cover, else a clean very good copy.
