First edition. 10 1/4" x 7" in gray illustrated wrappers. Gold endpapers with "Song of the Latchstring" by Frederic Atwood printed on front endpaper. 148 pp. Illustrations. Contents. 12 pages of advertisements at rear. Offers a summary history of the Klondike region and articles by various contributors to include stories, "Early Russian-American Explorations," "Historical Sketch of Yukon Territory," "Royal Northwest Mounted Police," "The Malamute," "The Packr's Story," "The Bandit Prince of Skagway," "Alaska-Yukon Highway," "Alaska Yukon Pioneers," " Ladies of the Golden North," "Sourdough Stampede 1929," etc. These articles are followed by the roster, complete with known addresses of the men and women the book committee could find who were still living. The editors admit it was only a fraction of those who responded to the lure of gold and riches in 1898. “The Gold Book is compiled and published in the interest of all sourdoughs who are living and in commemoration of those who have gone beyond the Last Past. It has been developed from a suggestion of a pioneer of the Yukon-Klondike days. Although thirty years have already passed since the great discovery on Bonanza Creek, it was hoped that some record could be made and preserved for future generations of the people and events of the pioneer years of Alaska and the Yukon, especially of that great epic of the North – the Klondike Stampede of 1898, a golden page in the history of our continent.” Chipping to over-sized wrappers else very good plus. A major undertaking and a great reference source.
