Publication: W H ALLEN & Co, 1887, London

First edition. 16mo. Original light blue cloth, titles stamped in gold gilt on the front cover and spine, black front and rear endpapers, viii, 170 [2] pp., preface. Herd 1860 says "Scarce." In 1884 Isabella Randall and her husband moved from England to Montana to become ranching homesteaders and to make their fortune in the livestock boom. Randall’s letters home to England describe the practical affairs of daily life, rural social interactions, and the natural world around her. Although her letters are cheerful, they also suggest why the Randalls ultimately failed to achieve financial success. Laid-in is a two-page mimeographed poem that was published in the Bozeman Avant Carrier, April 25, 1889, that is titled A Composite Photo Of The Lady Whose Ranch Life Has Lately Been Chronicled. Re-cased with original cloth laid-down, spine panel darkened, light wear to the spine ends, former owner's bookplate on the front pastedown sheet, former owner's inked name and date on verso of front fly leaf, else a very good copy housed in a cloth clamshell case with titles stamped in gold gilt on the spine.
