This study deals primarily with Parker County settlers' confrontations with the Kiowas and Comanche Indians and the settlers firm resolve to remain on the plains of North Texas despite the constant threat of death or captivity. The author spent years in research for this book and drew heavily from personal diaries, letters, public records, and contemporary newspaper accounts. In addition, it presents some previously unpublished photographs. The book is well-researched, readable, and an historically reliable work. The book was published in an edition of 500 copies in 1990 and was out of print within 100 days of publication. It is now a modern rarity and a worthwhile addition to any Texana or Western Americana library.
