Publication: Sheriff, Nacogdoches County, 1910, Nacogdoches, Texas
8.5" x 11". Reward Poster offered "for the arrest and delivery to me anywhere of JOE BUG ROQUEMORE, who has been convicted for murder and escaped under bond." A photograph of Roquemore, in a studio setting, standing in a suit and hat, and holding a bulldog on a chain, occupies most of the left half of the poster. He is described at length in physical appearance, and much commentary of his habits and comportment: "...inveterate cigarette smoker; wears No. 7 shoes, and goes neatly dressed;...is a hard drinker and natural sport; hangs out at saloons, gambling houses, and associates with lewd women, also associates with lewd negro women, has been accused of robbing several women of that character; he is of a jovial disposition...". An interesting Reward Poster, and issued by Sheriff A. J. Spradley of Nachogdoches, Texas, who is the subject of the biography by Henry C. Fuller entitled, "A Texas Sheriff," A Vivid And Accurate Account Of Some Of The Most Notorious Murder Cases And Feuds In The History Of East Texas, And The Officers Who Relentlessly Pursued The Criminals Till They Were Brought To Justice And Paid The Full Penalty Of The Law. We are including a fine, bright, First Edition copy of this scarce work, to accompany the Reward Poster. The poster has a fragile vertical fold through the middle, has 2 half-inch closed tears along top edge, and a tiny portion of the upper right corner are missing. Oval stamp in upper right corner of the Office Chief Of Police, San Francisco, Cal., March 19,1910. Very Good. A unique combination of Sheriff A. J. Spradley material.
