First edition. Beautiful designed die-cut 8" x 6" butterfly as as a string-tied promotional sales catalog, folds to 4" x 3," no pagination [16] includes covers. Black & white illustrations. This delightfully printed promotional catalogue for the millinery department at Hugh O'Neill's Dry Goods Store whose impressive building at Sixth Ave. & 21st St. was an impressive domed building, now serving as condominiums. Noted for their inventive marketing catalogs, and souvenir chromolithograph cards, this one illustrates the many Victorian trimmed hats which could be purchased "at the lowest possible price," including: Bo Peep Misses, Capulet, Easter, Hedrick, Ormonde & Bon Ton bonnets, as well as Virot, Gypsy Queen and Reckless hats. Founded in 1870, the Irish-American O'Neill (d. 1902) opened his distinctive store designed by Mortimer Merritt in 1887, and by 1892 employed 2500 people, and added a fifth floor to his store. After his death, the O'Neill store later merged with Adams Dry Goods, and closed down in 1907. Minor wear to the extremities with minor loss to lower portion of the wings. A very good, bright copy.
